I tremendously value nature (and wild animals). I think it is the greatest thing we have in terms of physical things. I believe in strong federal protection of the environment. The reason is pollution enters the air and waterways, and usually becomes a multistate matter. One state’s strong laws can easily be nixed by another state’s weak laws. While I’m generally of the same mindset of the Libertarian Party (free markets, balanced budgets, free trade, etc.), here, I’m not in sync. The general position of the Party has been that private legal actions can remedy harmful polluting activities. But being a lawyer, I know an injured person must prove causation to recover, and that’s very, very difficult with respect to an environmental matter.
