- Fix the Finances. This is most important. It’s very difficult. Unlike the major party candidates, I propose significant changes to our current system to deal with the problem, including entitlements reform via bills. A simpler tax system is proposed based on my 40+ years of experience dealing with tax matters. That system produces balanced budgets in non-recession years, etc. using algebra. Reforms apply to all entitlements (i.e., including Social Security and Medicare), and encourage marriage where children exist. Agency heads should cut costs, with their employees getting 20% of the savings. The financial problems could bring down the entire system, as the stock market is dependent on a solvent the U.S. Government. Consider 401(k) plans and IRAs. Expert Ray Dalio predicts a collapse, etc. in 2028. Expect a gradual then sudden collapse. Printing money should not even be considered as an option (much was printed in 2020, producing inflation).
- Resolve Immigration Problems. While enforcing the border, we need to bring in more ordinary people. And we need to logically deal with the people here illegally. Unlike the major party candidates, I propose solutions and have created a bill to effectuate the proposal.
- Executive Branch Power Reduction. The Executive Branch’s powers have been expanded beyond those permissible under the Constitution. Donald Trump is the latest in a line of abusers. Teddy Roosevelt got it started and FDR took it to a new level. Again, I have drafted a bill designed to reduce the powers of the Executive Branch and federal agencies.
- Create Competition in Health Care. There are two ways to minimize prices in any good or service, and only one works on a long-term basis. They are price fixing (doesn’t work long-term) and competition (works long-term). The two major parties must cater to the health insurance industry and providers, thus Obamacare and Medicare Part C are centered on insurance companies. Again, I have proposed solutions (via bills) that address these problems. See FSA summary, items 16-23
- Environmental Protection. Global warming is happening, and it is at least in part (and probably in large part) manmade. Reasonable things need to be done to address the problems. I’ve drafted a bill to change the gas tax to be more fair (given electric vehicles don’t pay it) and encourage clean energy. See summary and draft legislation.
- Maximize Private Sector Solutions. Based on my experience, the private sector is much more efficient (and cost-effective) in doing anything than is the public sector. Private sector solutions to problems need to be maximized. Space exploration is an example area.
- Education. Eliminate the (unproductive) Department of Education; maximize local power.
- Abortion & Personal Freedoms. The best approach to abortion is to keep the federal government (and taxpayer money) out. The next best thing is state regulation (i.e., the status quo). Personal freedoms should be maximized and reduced only when others are negatively impacted.
- Legal System. The DOJ has become weaponized. The Courts system, based on my personal experience, favors the federal government in any significant case. The judges take an oath to protect the Constitution, but many act to protect the government (no matter if it has broken the law). Per the DOJ’s website: “The mission of the Department of Justice (DOJ) is to uphold the law, to keep our country safe, and to protect civil rights.” It doesn’t consistently so do. Pages 37-51 of the attached brief covers part of a personal experience, proving the system failures. The attached brief from a related case supplies more evidence. Potential means of dealing with these problems include changing the oath that is taken by judges (requiring them not to favor the federal government in any matter), making an independent panel of retired attorneys a potential replacement for a federal judge/tribunal in any significant case involving the federal government and specifically making past class action experience not a consideration with respect to qualification to be class counsel in a class action. In federal litigation, the loser should pay the winner’s attorney fees and costs.
- The Fed. By statute (12 U.S.C. §225a), the Fed is supposed to seek maximum employment, stable prices and moderate long-term interest rates. It has largely failed. Its sole task should be producing stable prices. See FSA draft legislation, final paragraph (tt)
- Second Amendment. The right to bear arms exists and should remain, but mentally unstable people who pose a risk of harm to anyone and those involved in domestic disputes should have their right curtailed (if a judge so rules). State laws can and should exist to require owners to be responsible. Georgia has enacted such laws.
- Government Shutdowns. They have become frequent. Congress should not be paid for any such periods, and a fund should be established to pay essential workers during a shutdown. See BOPRA draft legislation, last paragraph.
- Consumer Abuse Protection. Consumers cannot go to court to handle minor matters where they have been abused by companies. I experienced such abuse and drafted the following legislation to permit consumers to be compensated for their time when they’ve been wronged.
- Railroads should not be permitted to run through busy intersections during rush hour.
- Civil forfeitures (taking of property when simply charged with a crime) need to stop. I support the FAIR Act of 2025.
- Free Trade needs to be the general rule. Tariffs should exist only as a counter to a foreign country’s unfair practices. Treaties, including the USMCA, need to be followed. Canada and Mexico should be charged some amount for indirectly receiving protection by the U.S. The Balance of Powers Restoration Act removes tariffing power from the president (and places it in the hands of Congress, consistent with the Constitution).
- The Drug War. Like prohibition, it has failed. An entirely different approach needs to be considered. Blowing up boats in the Caribbean Sea and overthrowing and imprisoning foreign leaders allegedly based on drug crimes (while pardoning others guilty of the same) isn’t the answer.
- The Military. Keep the strongest military in the world, by far, but significantly reduce the number (over 700) of foreign military bases. Empires haven’t lasted; a quasi-empire won’t last. While isolationism isn’t the answer, being involved in virtually every other country’s business also isn’t the answer. My take on the situation in Iran is consistent with the (marked) ending of the below Holman Jenkins WSJ article. The president should not have the power to make war and then substantively put the Congress in a position where it must act to fund it (and munitions replenishment) when failure to do so would be imprudent.
- Reduce Regulation. BOPRA makes unlawful regulations and orders, no matter when issued, null.
- Term Limits. Senators should be limited to two terms (12 years). House of Representatives members should be limited to six terms (12 years).
